POWER
SUPPLY
As stated in the MVU Road Map, MVU is fully committed to
a sustainable diverse power supply that includes renewable
energy, energy efficiency, demand response, energy storage,
electric vehicles, and cost-effective distributed generation.
Our goals include meeting or exceeding all state mandated
renewable portfolio standard requirements in a cost-effective
manner without sacrificing system reliability.
Steps taken this year to move towards achievement of power
supply goals include the approval of a 535 kW solar carport
project that will be located at the City Hall parking lot. When
complete, the solar carport project will integrate a 75 kW
battery storage unit that will provide clean energy to the
electric vehicle charging stations and include a kiosk in the
City Hall lobby that will display information about the project.
The City Council also approved a power purchase agreement
for the purchase of solar energy from the Antelope 3A
Expansion Project, located in Los Angeles County. This 15
MW solar photovoltaic project will begin delivering energy
to MVU in 2021. The combination of the Antelope Expansion
Project with existing power purchase agreements, MVU’s
solar carport project, and planned purchases over the next
two years will bring MVU in compliance with state mandates
for purchases of renewable energy.
