MVU was fortunate to receive a Civic Spark Fellow for the 2018-2019
program cycle. Civic Spark is the Governor’s Initiative program dedicated
to building capacity for local governments to address community resilience
issues such as climate change, water resource management, and access
to opportunities.
Through National Service, Civic Spark contributes to a more resilient and
just California by:
AMERICORPS
• Building local government capacity to address entrenched and
emerging issues
• Serving as a social purpose career accelerator for future leaders
• Fostering lasting, authentic community engagement
If I had one word to describe my time at MVU, it would be profound. I
came in at a time where I didn’t understand or know what I wanted to do
CIVIC SPARK
as a career, with a small network and no guidance. My fellowship at MVU
changed that: I had a project to work on, with people who guided me when
I had questions and doubts yet allowed me to take the lead on different
aspects of my project. I gained new skills, both technical and professional,
and gained a new network of not just coworkers but friends as well. I am
grateful for the profound experience MVU gave me, and the people I had
the pleasure of working with.
-Alan Siebuhr
Mr. Siebuhr calculated the amount of solar power on each MVU circuit, as
well as the cost-shift from solar to non-solar customers. He determined
the income disparity of each census tract and the amount of solar they
have based on each tract’s average income.
