Yesterday, October 14, was Indigenous Peoples’ Day: a day that we honor and reflect on the deep history, culture, and contributions of the Indigenous peoples who have been here long before any of us. From their stewardship of the land to their preservation of language and traditions, Indigenous communities continue to shape the fabric of our nation. It is a day to celebrate their resilience and recognize the impact they have made throughout the centuries and continue to make today.
Indigenous peoples are a vital part of our community and our country. They have fought not just for their survival, but also for the survival of their cultures and traditions. Despite the many challenges they have faced over generations, they continue to thrive and inspire, showing incredible strength and perseverance.
Here in Moreno Valley, we value diversity, and Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an important reminder that this land has a rich history far older than any of us. A history we must acknowledge, respect, and continue to learn from. The lessons of Indigenous peoples are especially important in times like these – they remind us of the importance of community, of being connected to the environment, and of the strength we can find in our roots.
On this day, I encourage all of us to take a moment to recognize the sacrifices and contributions of Indigenous peoples. Learn about their stories, support Indigenous artists and businesses, and participate in activities that honor their legacy. We must all strive to build a future where every community’s history is respected and where the principles of equality and opportunity are truly lived out.
Let’s take this opportunity to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day not just as a single day of recognition, but as a call to action to support a brighter, more equitable future for Indigenous communities everywhere.
Ayer, 14 de octubre, fue el Día de los Pueblos Indígenas: un día en el que honramos y reflexionamos sobre la profunda historia, cultura y contribuciones de los pueblos indígenas que han estado aquí mucho antes que cualquiera de nosotros. Desde su administración de la tierra hasta la preservación del idioma y las tradiciones, las comunidades indígenas continúan dando forma a la estructura de nuestra nación. Es un día para celebrar su resiliencia y reconocer el impacto que han tenido a lo largo de los siglos y que siguen teniendo en la actualidad.
Los pueblos indígenas son una parte vital de nuestra comunidad y de nuestro país. Han luchado no solo por su supervivencia, sino también por la supervivencia de sus culturas y tradiciones. A pesar de los muchos desafíos que han enfrentado durante generaciones, continúan prosperando e inspirando, mostrando una fuerza y perseverancia increíbles.
Aquí en Moreno Valley, valoramos la diversidad, y el Día de los Pueblos Indígenas es un recordatorio importante de que esta tierra tiene una rica historia mucho más antigua que cualquiera de nosotros. Una historia que debemos reconocer, respetar y de la que debemos seguir aprendiendo. Las lecciones de los pueblos indígenas son especialmente importantes en tiempos como estos: nos recuerdan la importancia de la comunidad, de estar conectados con el medio ambiente y de la fuerza que podemos encontrar en nuestras raíces.
En este día, animo a todos a que nos tomemos un momento para reconocer los sacrificios y las contribuciones de los pueblos indígenas. Conozcamos sus historias, apoyemos a los artistas y empresas indígenas y participemos en actividades que honren su legado. Todos debemos esforzarnos por construir un futuro en el que se respete la historia de cada comunidad y en el que se vivan realmente los principios de igualdad y oportunidades.
Aprovechemos esta oportunidad para celebrar el Día de los Pueblos Indígenas no solo como un día de reconocimiento, sino como un llamado a la acción para apoyar un futuro más brillante y equitativo para las comunidades indígenas de todas partes.###
